The Story

I have been creating stringed instruments for 37 years. These years have been filled with experimentation of tone wood combinations, substrate materials and innovative construction design.

After all was said and literally done I found myself utilizing the three traditional woods that the great masters found to be most advantageous.

I honestly felt a bit stupid to have not realized the obvious logical conclusion long before I even embarked upon this career as a Luthier. The Master Violin Makers had already foraged though the long list of domestic and exotic woods for instrument building and had drawn their own correct conclusions as to which woods are best for creating a fine stringed instrument.

The tone woods are as critical for electric guitars as they are for an acoustic voicing instrument. The inherent sustain and tones are dependent upon this choice. Stradivarius and the gang understood this as the critical portion of the equation independent of the magic and skills the builder places within.

As 20th and 21st century solid body electric string instrument builders (Rickenbacker/Fender/Gibson) we should have first been cognizant of the research and work that preceded our era and began from this proper positioning our own creative quest as string instrument designers/builders.
